New Rockaway Beach boardwalk designs draw criticism
Community board says newly-added chaise lounges and tanning tables could be dangerous
Members of Community Board 14 are unhappy with the latest designs for the new Rockaway Beach boardwalk.
The New York City Economic Development Corporation and the New York City Department of Parks and Recreation presented the newest to the Parks and Public Safety Committee of Community Board 14 earlier this week.
The Board, however, already voted down the same plans two months ago.
The committee members had problems with some of the proposed boardwalk finishes — which didn’t exist in earlier versions of the design — specifically chaise lounges and tanning tables, which are sloped, flat surfaces. The additions could attract vandalism or be dangerous in the event of another storm, according to the committee members. [Rockaway Times] — Claire Moses
