A full-floor condo at 838 Fifth Avenue has sold for $31.86 million. The unit in the 12-story limestone building originally designed by Harry Prince for the Union of American Hebrew Congregations in 1950, was the most expensive sale of the week, according to the New York Times.
The 5,461-square-foot unit, No. 8, is at 65th Street just opposite the Central Park Zoo and features park views. The sale included a wine cellar, No. W5.
In 1999, Charles Bronfman, the former co-chairman of Seagram, acquired the duplex penthouse on the 11th and 12th floors as a sponsor unit for $18 million. However, the identities of both buyer and seller in this week’s sale are unknown.
