The former manager of the Tricham Houses at 109-121 East 130th Street, a federally subsidized development, was sentenced to a year and a day in prison for placing ineligible families in Section 8 Housing in exchange for cash bribes.
In federal court in April, Novelette “Pat” Campbell was found guilty of accepting bribes in connection with federal program funds, conspiracy to accept bribes in connection with federal program funds, and four counts of false statements relating to HUD certifications, according to the Attorney General’s office.
Campbell accepted bribes ranging from $2,000 to $9,000 for putting tenants in the federally subsidized units who weren’t qualified. Between April 2000 and October 2011, Campbell sold slots on the waiting list, preventing those who had been waiting for years from getting apartments.
Campbell was also convicted of falsifying documents that showed that all necessary protocols were followed. She will also have to forfeit $35,500 and pay a $600 special assessment fee. [NYO] — Claire Moses
