You might have a better chance winning the lottery.
A total of 58,832 people applied for 105 affordable housing spots at 1133 Manhattan Avenue in Greenpoint, according to the Daily News. This is the highest number of all four city lotteries taking place in Brooklyn, Manhattan, Queens and the Bronx.
“That right there really underscores the urgency of the affordability problem in the city,” said Jonathan Miller, CEO of appraisal firm Miller Samuel, told the newspaper.
The $63 million mixed-use building will have 210 new rental units after the development is finished. Half will be sold at market rate. Of the remaining 105 apartments, 42 units will be set aside for families who earn at or below $29,050 a person and 63 units will go to families making at or below $101,675 per person.
Those who will get selected for the affordable units will pay between $647 and $2,405 a month for a two-bedroom. The winners haven’t been picked yet. [NYDN] — Claire Moses
