Demolition will start today at 5Pointz, the former graffiti artist mecca in Long Island City.
The art on the building’s facade was painted over last year. The structure at 22-44 Jackson Avenue is making way for a two-tower development by David and Jerry Wolkoff.
The towers — one 41 stories and the other 47 stories — will include about 1,000 apartments. The development will also include 20 artist studios that total 12,000 square feet. The north tower will include retail space.
There will also be a 40-by-80 foot space above the development’s garage, where graffiti artists can make their mark on the building. [Gothamist] — Claire Moses
