Pritzker Prize-winning architect Zaha Hadid is suing critic Martin Filler and the New York Review of Books over what she calls defamatory statements in a series of articles.
Hadid Filed A Complaint With The New York State Supreme Court in Manhattan, in which she claimed Filler implied she refused to take responsibility for workers who allegedly died while constructing her firm’s Al Wakrah stadium in Qatar, Reuters reported. In the complaint, Hadid said her comments were taken out of context and were made before construction got under way at the World Cup 2022 facility, according to the news service.
Filler’s review constituted “a personal attack disguised as a book review and has exposed Ms. Hadid to public ridicule and contempt, depriving her of confidence and injuring her good name and reputation,” an attorney for Hadid alleged in a statement cited by Reuters. [Reuters] – Tom DiChristopher
