Although the commute to the city can be exhausting, the southeast Brooklyn neighborhood of Canarsie continues to attract middle-class families, with its large park, Jamaica Bay views and suburban-style housing.

“It’s almost like suburbia in the middle of the metropolitan city,” Neal Duncan, president of the United Canarsie South Civic Association, told the Wall Street Journal. “Young kids have the opportunity to play in the yards, in the streets.”

Prices generally range from around $350,000 to $425,000 for a one-family house and $375,000 to $600,000 for a two-family, Raymond Parasmo of Brooklyn Real Property, told the Journal. The median listing price in Canarsie last week was $459,000, according to StreetEasy.

“The diversity of the housing really makes Canarsie a great place to search for a house,” Parasmo said. [WSJ]Christopher Cameron
