The city is in talks to build a health and wellness complex on the nearly 100-acre site of former tuberculosis treatment center Seaview Hospital on Staten Island. Staten Island Borough President James Oddo submitted a proposal for the campus called the Staten Island Health & Wellness Campus. The city’s Health and Hospital Corporation and the Economic Development Corporation, which are jointly funding a feasibility study, are reviewing the plans. The city would build community centers for senior citizens and Alzheimer patients, a children’s hospital and clinics for children and adults with special needs. A multiple-building nursing home would stay on the site. “These buildings have been left to rot for decades and decades,” Oddo told Crain’s. “But this is a chance to breathe life into them for a very noble cause.” [Crain’s]Mark Maurer
