A $240 million deal to bring new residences and limited medical facilities to Long Island College Hospital in Brooklyn Heights could be back on track after it seemed to have derailed last week.
NYU Langone Medical Center has signed an agreement with developer Fortis Property Group and current operator State University of New York to provide health services at LICH, state officials told Capital New York. However, the deal is contingent upon a lawsuit brought by the New York State Nurses Association being dropped or dismissed, the news site reported.
The deal looked dead after NYU pulled out just over a week ago, leaving Fortis without a partner to run promised medical facilities. The medical center cited Judge Johnny Lee Baynes’ advice to the nurses union that it should file suit against NYU and Fortis in order to resolve a dispute over hiring ahead of the takeover.
Capital New York first reported the breakthrough on Saturday and said an official announcement would follow within days. [Capital NY] – Tom DiChristopher
