The Landmarks Preservation Commission is planning to remove 95 sites and two historic districts that have been under consideration for landmark status for several decades. The commission will not hold a public hearing on the plan.

Long Island City’s Pepsi sign, Manhattan’s Bergdorf Goodman building and the Green-Wood Cemetery in Brooklyn are among the items on the list to be discussed by the LPC at at Dec. 9 meeting, according to DNAinfo.

Preservationists fear the lack of input from the public will lead to the razing of historically significant buildings in the five boroughs.

A city spokesperson told the website that the meeting is aimed to help the LPC function better by clearing its “backlog” of items. Various incarnations of the commission have been reviewing the status of thirty one of the iconic structures and sites for 40 or more years, DNA reported. [DNAinfo] — Claire Moses
