HBO plans to broadcast a six-part documentary on the eccentric Robert Durst, an estranged member of the Durst real estate family.
“The Jinx: The Life and Deaths of Robert Durst,” slated to premiere in February, will focus on several unsolved crimes tied to the 71-year-old millionaire. The disappearance of Durst’s wife, Kathie, in the 1980s remains a mystery.
Robert Durst cooperated with the filmmakers and participated in more than 25 hours of interview footage. The Durst family did not cooperate, as 13 of his relatives have orders of protection against him, the New York Times reported.
The filmmakers, Andrew Jarecki and Marc Smerling, also made “All Good Things,” a drama loosely based on Durst that starred Ryan Gosling.
Durst is also estranged from his current wife, Debrah Lee Charatan, who runs BCB Property Management with her son Bennat Charatan Berger. BCB bought an Upper West Side portfolio for $81 million last month, as TRD reported.
Over the summer, Durst sold two buildings — one at 234 Union Avenue in Williamsburg and the other at 250 Pacific Street in Carroll Gardens, as previously reported. He was also arrested for allegedly exposing himself and urinating on a cash register at a CVS store in Texas. [NYT] — Mark Maurer
