It’s no “Poor Door” but a luxury tower in Queens is putting up a fence.
Long Island City’s new Q41 building, which was bailed out by the city, is blocking the large terraces of a few affordable units, according to the New York Post.
Tenants claim that the building fears that tenants with smaller balconies will get jealous. But many renters, like Erin McFadzen, chose their apartment specifically because of the terrace.
McFadzen’s wrap-around terrace is now fenced off by what she calls a style 6-foot-high “Jurassic Park”-style wire barrier.
“We’re caged in,” McFadzen told The Post. “Every time someone comes over, I have to explain why the fence is there . . . and tell them we’re rent stabilized, like it’s a badge I have to wear,” she said. [NYP] – Christopher Cameron
