A three-level penthouse, recently restored in homage to the building’s original architect, Rosario Candela, has hit the market asking $40 million.
The unit at 775 Park Avenue, between 72nd and 73rd Streets, features two terraces and six bedrooms. It was built in The 1920s And Along With 990 Fifth Avenue, the unit formed “the basis of his reputation for designing superb ultraluxury apartment houses,” according to Andrew Alpern’s “The New York Apartment Houses of Rosario Candela and James Carpenter.”
Penthouse C includes eight fireplaces, an interior elevator, a wood-paneled library overlooking Park Avenue and a spiral staircase that connects to what was once the original staff wing, according to the New York Times.
“The layout is very flexible,” listing broker Mary C. Kent of Sotheby’s International Realty told the Times. “I think the apartment basically has all the needs of people looking. Everybody wants great space, elegant space. They want to have light and views. They want high ceilings and they want great kitchens.” [NYT] – Christopher Cameron
