Matthew Breitenbach, a top Hamptons agent and half of the successful mother-son Breitenbach team, is leaving the Corcoran Group for Douglas Elliman, The Real Deal has learned.

Working with his mother, Susan Breitenbach, Matthew has sold more than $1 billion of real estate to date. He is currently marketing former NBA star Jason Kidd’s two-acre Hamptons estate for $8 million, as well as a 10-bedroom new construction home in Bridgehampton asking $15 million.

“I want to take my business to the next level,” Breitenbach told TRD of his decision to switch firms.

The 31-year-old agent, who joined Corcoran in 2005, comes from a prominent Hamptons real estate family. His father, Stephen Breitenbach, is a luxury homebuilder and owner of Breitenbach Builders, while Susan is a top agent at Corcoran where she is marketing one of the Hamptons’ priciest listings – a $43 million estate owned by Goldman Sachs partner Jonathan Sobel.

Breitenbach said he and his mom quietly parted ways in 2013. “I wanted to make my own name in the business,” he said, adding that his mother is “the best broker I’ve ever met.”  [vision_pullquote style=”1″ align=””] “I wanted to make my own name in the business.” [/vision_pullquote]

Representatives for Corcoran didn’t respond to a request for comment by press time.

At Elliman, he will target properties in the $10 million-and-up range, and he will tap into Elliman’s Aspen and South Florida offices, as well as its new sports and entertainment division, for leads. “They want to make me their superstar, young, male presence,” he said of his new firm.

Douglas Elliman’s Chairman Howard Lorber called Breitenbach a “powerful force” in residential real estate. “He is synonymous with the Hamptons luxury real estate market,” Lorber said in a statement. “By participating in several of the area’s most significant transactions, he represents a new generation of career professional in our industry.”
