Yet another gargantuan feat of architectural ingenuity is coming to Dubai. The government has secured funds to finance “Aladdin City,” a 1.2 million-square-foot commercial and hotel development inspired by the legends of Aladdin and Sindbad the Sailor.

Construction is slated to begin in 2016, Dubai Municipal Chief Hussain Nasser Lootah told Emirates 24/7. The three giant genie lamp-shaped towers set to rise on the Dubai Creek reference the “oddly-shaped domes suspended in clouds” found in local myths and the bridges take after “exotic marine life such as dragon and snakes,” according to Curbed.

And the government backers are definitely banking on “Aladdin City” drawing a few tourists, as the project also includes 900 parking spaces. [Curbed]Christopher Cameron
