UPDATED, Feb. 20, 5:36 p.m.: Rockefeller University will be adding a new building to its East Side campus, according to permits filed with the city today.

The 160,000-square-foot project will have a laboratory on the first floor and conference rooms. The second level will house a laboratory and offices. The permits show a research pavilion, amphitheater and cafeteria are planned for a third floor, however, a representative from Rockefeller said that the building will only be two stories.

The project appears to be part of the university’s planned expansion, dubbed the Stavros Niarchos Foundation-David Rockefeller River Campus. The expansion was approved by the City Council last year.

Rockefeller’s campus is bordered by FDR Drive on the East River and the new building at 1228 York Avenue will sit between 64th and 68th Streets. The main campus at 1230 York Avenue has an additional 2.15 million buildable square feet.

Rafael Vinoly Architects is the architect of record.

Kyna Doles contributed reporting.

Correction: An earlier version of this story misstated the building’s planned square footage.
