The contractor that poured the 105-floor concrete superstructure for One World Trade Center is claiming that the Port Authority of New York & New Jersey refuses to pay $87 million it is owed.
An affiliate of Collavino Construction Company, one of the main contractors on One World Trade Center, has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection and explained that it can’t pay its suppliers until the Port Authority ponies up, the New York Daily News reported. The company is currently facing seven separate lawsuits by subcontractors and suppliers.
The specialty concrete superstructure that the company was hired for is designed to protect the building’s upper floors in the case of a street-level bomb blast.
Collavino said that it completed the work in 2013 following substantial delays beyond its control, but was stonewalled when it sought payment from the Port Authority. [NYDN] — Tess Hofmann
