Avison Young announced today that it tapped Mitti Liebersohn, formerly a vice chair at JLL, to run the company’s New York City office as president.

Liebersohn, who was part of a large team of brokers who defected from Cushman & Wakefield to JLL in 2011, will report to Arthur Mirante, Avison Young’s president of the tri-state region.

“The client-centric culture that we’ve established is perfectly aligned with Mitti’s reputation for building longstanding relationships that have enabled him to become one of the country’s top industry professionals,” Mirante said in a statement.

“I believe in the culture that Avison Young is creating, whereby teamwork and co-operation are not just encouraged, but expected,” Liebersohn said in a statement.

While at JLL, Liebersohn worked on deals including Cornell University’s expansion at Normandy Real Estate Partners’ 575 Lexington Avenue and Morgan Stanley’s nearly 150,000-square-foot lease at Vornado Realty Trust’s 1290 Sixth Avenue.

Avison, Canada’s largest independently-owned commercial brokerage, made its first foray into the New York City market when it opened an office here in 2012. Mirante had been running the office since senior broker Greg Kraut stepped down from his managing director duties a few years ago. — Rich Bockmann
