Nat Rothschild, financier and member of the wealthy banking clan the Rothschild family, is asking $17.5 million for his West Village bachelor pad-style townhouse at 8 Saint Luke’s Place.
The home is notable for being a four-story one-bedroom, designed to Rothschild’s specifications without much regard for what the next owner might want, according to Curbed. The architect, David Chipperfield, had to convince Rothschild to include any kitchen at all. They settled on placing it in the basement.
“A lot of people when they’re doing their houses, they’re too obsessed with taste, what other people will think,” Chipperfield told Men’s Vogue. “Nat couldn’t care less about all that.” [Curbed] — Tess Hofmann
