Senator Dean Skelos and son to be arrested next week
The corruption investigation once again involves Glenwood Management
New York State Senate leader Dean Skelos and his son, Adam, are expected to be arrested next week by the federal government on corruption charges. The charges come just three months after federal bribery and kickback allegations led to the downfall of Assemblyman Sheldon Silver.
The charges against Skelos, a Republican from Long Island, will likely include conspiracy, extortion and solicitation of bribes, according to the New York Times.
Prosecutors are focusing on a small environmental company based in Arizona called AbTech Industries, to which Dean Skelos awarded a contract. Adam Skelos had worked as a consultant for AbTech.
Furthermore, investigators are looking into whether AbTech hired Adam in exchange for benefits from Dean.
AbTech has ties to Leonard Litwin’s Glenwood Management, “a politically influential real estate developer,” according to the Times.
Glenwood surfaced in the Sheldon Silver corruption case as a beneficiary of 421a tax breaks, though it was not accused of wrongdoing. [NYT] – Christopher Cameron
