No parking: UES garage pitched as $50M mansion

Converting the building would cost anywhere from $9M to $20M

A 40-foot-wide, Beaux-Arts parking garage on the Upper East Side is being marketed as a massive single-family mansion. The owners are asking $50 million.

Located at 177-179 East 73rd Street, the five-story garage was built around 1906 to appeal to the elite, with a mansard roof and dormer windows, according to the Wall Street Journal.

“They built this to appeal to the sensibilities of the wealthy,” explained Pat Wheatley of Sotheby’s International Realty, who is listing the property with Nikki Field.

“We’re targeting people who need a large home,” Field told the Journal. She added that converting the building to a residence would cost anywhere from $9 million to $20 million. [WSJ]Christopher Cameron
