Mayor Bill de Blasio and Assemblyman Keith Wright, chairman of the housing committee, are set to join forces for a rally on rent control this Saturday in Harlem.
Their demonstration comes in the wake of Governor Andrew Cuomo’s attempt to have a hold a similar rally in Harlem on Thursday, which was subsequently canceled, according to Capital New York.
The leaders will be pushing for stronger rent regulation laws, with the current set of laws expiring on June 15. They will be joined by Manhattan Borough President Gale Brewer.
A representative from Cuomo’s office indicated that the governor was hoping to reschedule his planned rally, and it was unclear if he would be attending de Blasio and Wright’s demonstration.
Cuomo and de Blasio have expressed some frustration with each other’s positions on housing issues in recent days, though Cuomo has said the clashing is part of a “healthy debate.” [Capital NY] — Tess Hofmann
