An attorney for a 93-year-old rent-stabilized tenant accused Lloyd Goldman’s BLDG Management of installing cameras in her hallway in a West Village building amid a legal battle to oust her. Now, the attorney is facing arrest for removing the equipment.
Ruth Berk, a former cabaret singer, lives in the penthouse at 95 Christopher Street for $700 a month. The apartment could rent for $10,000 a month on the open market, according to the New York Post.
Arthur Schwartz, the lawyer who is representing Berk in a face-off with BLDG Management, discovered pinholes in the ceiling outside her apartment, which turned out to be five cameras. He removed the spyware and is now facing charges of grand larceny.
“I think the whole thing is ridiculous,” Schwartz said. “It’s just another page in the harassment of my client.”
Lloyd Goldman’s BLDG Management filed permits for a 41-story residential tower in Midtown East earlier this year, and recently secured $250 million in financing for the project. [NYP] — Tess Hofmann
