HBO’s newest prestige series “Show Me A Hero” is a 1980s-set drama about a Yonkers mayor who made it his mission to racially integrate the city’s affordable housing.
Conceived by “The Wire” creator David Simon, the series will star Oscar Isaac (“Inside Llewyn Davis,” “A Most Violent Year) as Mayor Nicholas Wasicsko, according to Vulture. The cast also features Winona Ryder and Catherine Keener.
Has Mayor Bill de Blasio’s top mayoral priority of building affordable housing seeped into pop culture? It would appear so.
Yesterday, a year and a half after he took office, de Blasio announced that New York City financed 20,500 units of affordable housing in one year — the most since 1989.
The series will premiere August 16. [Vulture] — Tess Hofmann
