Jeff Koons expands studio space in Hell’s Kitchen
"Balloon Dog" artist buys his third tract on West 52nd St. for $12.7M
Contemporary artist Jeff Koons is expanding his studio space in Hell’s Kitchen with the purchase of yet another commercial building along West 52nd Street. He recently purchased 624 West 52nd Street from Celtic Realty LLC for $12.7 million.
It’s the third purchase in the artist’s $23.7 million assemblage. Koons, whose work is heavily featured in the collections of developers Aby Rosen and Edward Minskoff, scooped up a vacant lot at 622 West 52nd Street for $5.5 million in May. He also purchased a vacant garage at 620 West 52nd Street for $5.5 million in May, The Real Deal reported.
The property at 624 West 52nd Street is home to a three-story, 11,000-square-foot commercial building. Combined with the two adjacent properties, the site has nearly 50,200 buildable square feet.
The move will be a massive space upgrade for Koons –– his Chelsea studio at 601 West 29th Street checks in at just under 10,000 square feet.
No plans to upgrade the properties have yet been filed with the city’s Department of Buildings.
