UPDATED: May 20, 10:08 a.m.: Doctors visiting Columbia University Medical Center will soon have somewhere to hang their heads. Two hotels, the first ever in the neighborhood, are expected to open this August in Washington Heights.
The first, the long-awaited eight-story, 52-room Hotel Cliff at 505 West 181st Street, will welcome guests in early August, DNAinfo reported. The building’s owner, Manny Kumar, initially filed plans eight years ago.
The Khristos Karastathis-designed structure is characterized by a glass façade with alternating colored panels, green on the left and blue on the right, adorning each balcony.
A dozen blocks away, the $22 million Edge Hotel project at 515 West 168th Street is in the final stages of obtaining its certificate of occupancy, according to one of the developers, Moinian Group executive Oskar Brecher.
The Edge stands at 11 stories, and will feature 54 rooms and 15,000 square feet of space for medical offices. Construction was delayed in 2013 due to an accident. Brecher estimated the hotel will open by the end of the summer. [DNAinfo] — Ariel Stulberg
