Updated: August 3, 1:56 pm.: The 75-year-old Essex Street Market, known simply as “Site 9” in the Essex Crossing development plans, will soon be replaced with a 12-story mixed-use tower. Here’s a look at what maybe coming.
The new building will house market-rate condominiums and two levels of commercial space at its base, according to 6sqft. GF55 Partners are designing the brick, metal and glass structure.
The market will relocate across Delancey Street to a 30,000 square-foot space at the base of Essex Crossing in 2018, after which construction will begin at its current home.
Update: In statement provided to TRD, Delancey Street Associates (which is composed of the project’s developers: Taconic Investment Partners, L+M Development Partners and BFC Partners) said: “We aren’t familiar with this rendering. We have yet to select an architect and begin design work on Site 9.”
