Now that he’s made an $820,000 profit on the sale of his Upper West Side co-op, New York Times food columnist Mark Bittman can spring for a pad with a much grander kitchen.
The food columnist and author of 14 books sold the two-bedroom co-op at 17 West 71st Street — with a surprisingly slim kitchen — for $1.82 million, cashing in on the unit he bought for $999,999 in 2009, when Manhattan real estate prices were in a deep trough.
The savvy dealmaking amounts to an 82 percent return on investment in just six years for Bittman and his wife, Times art director Kelly Doe, according to 6sqft.
Another Grey Lady foodie, former chief restaurant critic Frank Bruni, recently sold his home at 123 West 74th Street for $1.95 million. He later bought a $1.65 million unit in the same building. [6sqft] – Marynia Kruk
