The observation deck at Related Cos.’ 30 Hudson Yards on Manhattan’s West Side will be the tallest in the city – beating out the view from the Empire State Building by 50 feet.
The 75th-floor deck will stand 1,100 feet above ground, stretching over 5,000 square feet at the tower with 360-degree views of the city, a Related spokesperson said Thursday. The Empire State Building’s 86th-floor observation deck is 1,050 feet high.
The developer expects several million visitors annually at the 92-story skyscraper, slated to be the fourth-tallest building in the city when completed in 2019, according to the New York Post. The observation deck could feature a restaurant and bar, as well as a “thrill-seeking element” that is still in the works, Related said.
In addition to the Empire State Building, 30 Hudson Yards’ observation deck will also face competition from the One World Observatory at One World Trade Center, which opened to the public earlier this year. An influx of observation decks in the coming years, at projects like SL Green’s One Vanderbilt, has led to concerns that the city could have too many observatories.
Construction began at the $20 billion Hudson Yards development around three years ago. The project will feature 17 million square feet of commercial and residential space in the area west of 10th Avenue, between West 23rd and West 42nd streets. [NYP] — Rey Mashayekhi
