UPDATED, Sept. 2, 4:45 p.m.: Grim details of playboy developer Sean Ludwick’s alleged drunken drive along Sag Harbor’s notoriously winding roads that ended in the death of his friend, Douglas Elliman broker Paul Hansen, are coming into focus.
Ludwick, head of BlackHouse Development, spent the night drinking with Hansen at the 230 Down in Southampton, according to a media report.
Prosecutors say that Ludwick crashed his 2013 Porsche into a telephone pole on Rolling Hill Court East in Sag Harbor, on the corner in front of Hansen’s home.
“The body of his passenger was ejected onto the road, where the defendant left the scene and proceeded to drive away,” Suffolk County prosecutor Maggie Bopp said. “The defendant attempted to go up the street driving on what was left of his wheels, basically two rims.”
Police found Ludwick standing outside his torn up car with a “strong odor of an alcohol beverage,’’ court papers state. They then followed a trail of motor oil back to the scene of the accident and found the body of Hansen, a Sag Harbor broker for Douglas Elliman.
A neighbor called Ludwick a “spoiled low-life,” the New York Post reported. “We are shocked that someone could do something so terrible as to just leave him to die,” said a source close to the victim’s family.
A neighbor of Hansen told the Post that Hansen had warned him about driving too quickly in the area a few years prior.
Ludwick was arrested and charged with DWI and leaving the scene of a fatal accident. He’s being held on a $1 million bond. Charges could be upgraded to vehicular homicide. [NYP] – Ariel Stulberg
