The Essex Crossing development on the Lower East Side is bulking up its tenant mix with the announcement that a Planet Fitness will take 22,000 square feet of space at the mixed-use project.
The national gym chain agreed to take the entire second floor of 145 Clinton Street, a 15-story building that will hold 211 rental units and 70,000 square feet of retail space on its basement, first and second levels. Asking rent for the second floor space is about $100 per square foot.
Delancey Street Associates – a partnership among BFC Partners, L+M Development Partners and Taconic Investment Partners – is building Essex Crossing. The group recently broke ground on two of the nine buildings at the project, 145 Clinton Street and 115 Delancey Street, and plans to finish both in 2017, according to Crain’s.
In recent months, Regal Cinemas agreed to take 65,000 square feet at 115 Delancey Street while NYU Langone Medical Center announced it will open a 40,000-square-foot facility at Essex Crossing. Meanwhile, the developers plan on leasing 146 Clinton Street’s 30,000-square-foot basement space to a grocer, with Trader Joe’s among those in discussions.
