TRD’s E.B. Solomont wins Front Page Award

Newswomen's Club of New York honors reporter for coverage of Chinese investors in NYC

The Real Deal is thrilled to announce that reporter E.B. Solomont has won a Front Page Award from the Newswomen’s Club of New York, one of the most prestigious prizes for New York-area journalists.

The award, founded in 1937, recognizes the best journalism by women working in print, wire, broadcast and online media. Solomont won for her March 2015 cover package titled “The Year of the Chinese Investor.”

In a series of stories, she explored the scale of Chinese investment in the New York market, and the impact it’s having on the local landscape. She looked at the army of gatekeepers  — from wealth managers to bankers — that helped funnel more than $3 billion of Chinese wealth into the Big Apple, and she went behind the $2 billion purchase of the Waldorf-Astoria by Chinese insurance giant Anbang Group.

Recent honors for TRD include reporter Rich Bockmann’s gold prize from the National Association of Real Estate Editors for a September 2014 story on Manhattan’s last parking lots, and managing web editor Hiten Samtani’s runner-up prize from the Society of American Business Editors and Writers for a story on Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s real estate industry ties.
