Manhattan’s priciest-ever for-sale-by-owner listing is no more. Long Island builder Steven Klar has opted not to sell the triplex penthouse atop City Spire Center he listed himself more than two years ago with a sky-high price tag of $100 million.
Klar, who decided to go it alone after Douglas Elliman listed the 8,000-square-foot apartment in 2012, told the New York Post that he and his wife will continue to keep the home as a part-time residence, that is, unless a favorable offer comes across his table.
When Douglas Elliman’s exclusive expired in 2013, Klar said he thought brokers Raphael De Niro and Victoria Logvinsky had done a good job promoting the property, but he wanted to give it a shot himself, as The Real Deal reported.
Klar bought the six-bedroom, nine-bathroom octagonal unit on the 73rd, 74th and 75th floors for $4.5 million in a fire sale from the lender who took control of the property from developer Ian Bruce Eichner.
At the time Klar listed it himself for nine figures in 2013, the second most-expensive apartment listed for sale by its owner was a $12.5-million co-op on Park Avenue.
