A four-floor condo unit constituting half an Upper East Side townhouse is in contract for $45 million.
The apartment, on the lower floors of Atterbury Mansion, is part of Daniel Straus’ Whitney Condos development at 33 East 74th Street, a nine-building assemblage on the Upper East Side.
Straus is restoring the facades of the set of landmarked buildings, and performing a gut renovating inside, combining the buildings into a set of large condos.
The developer originally planned to sell the century-old Atterbury Mansion separately, unrenovated, but changed his mind when, as he told the Wall Street Journal, “we realized there was this demand for these large condo homes on the Upper East Side.”
Straus bought the mansion five years ago from the Whitney Museum of American art, paying $95 million. The other unit in the building, on the upper floors, is also in contract, for $32 million. [WSJ] – Ariel Stulberg
