Architectural and design firm Gensler inked a lease for more than 119,000 square feet at Ruben Companies’ 1700 Broadway in Midtown.
The 12-year lease gives Gensler the second through sixth floors at the 42-story office tower, located between West 53rd and 54th streets, with the firm leaving its current space at Tishman Speyer’s 1230 Sixth Avenue in Rockefeller Center next fall.
Asking rent in the deal was $59 per square foot, according to the New York Observer.
Gensler is the second design firm in the last several weeks to announce a move uptown to the blocks just south of Central Park — with COOKFOX Architects recently signing a deal to relocate from the Flatiron District to Empire State Realty Trust’s 250 West 57th Street.
The moves are indicative of Midtown’s increasing appealing to creative and TAMI tenants who are finding it tough to lock down big blocks of space in in the much-desired Midtown South office market. [NYO] – Rey Mashayekhi
