Amazon inks lease at Liberty View complex
E-commerce giant makes 7-year deal for distribution space in Sunset Park
E-commerce leviathan Amazon plans to open a distribution outpost at Salmar Properties’ Massive Liberty View Industrial Plaza in Sunset Park.
The company signed a seven-year lease, with a renewal option for two additional five-year terms, at the 1.1 million-square-foot complex, according to a memorandum of lease dated Oct. 26. The size of the space is not clear.
Requests for comment from Salmar Properties and from brokers Newmark Grubb Knight Frank were not immediately returned.
Asking rents at the building are in the high $20s or low $30s per square foot, according a source familiar with the building.
The eight-story building, located at 850 Third Avenue, is already home to Bed Bath & Beyond, which occupies 120,000 square feet on the second floor, and Koppers Chocolate, which leases 50,000 square feet on the third floor.
The rest of the property is currently vacant, according to CoStar.
Last year, Amazon signed a 17-year lease for 470,000 square feet of at Vornado Realty Trust’s 7 West 34th Street.
In September, an Amazon contractor, Virginia-based LaserShip, signed a 10-year lease at a warehouse in Ridgewood.
