Besides being a world-renowned hotelier, Ian Schrager is also a born and bred Brooklynite, and he’s come full circle for his latest project – his very own Rainbow Room-style rooftop restaurant at the upcoming Ian Schrager Company Public Hotel in Dumbo Heights.
The 200-seat restaurant perched atop the 600-plus-room hotel will be fully enclosed in glass and feature a rotating floor — akin to that of the Rainbow Room at 30 Rockefeller Center and the View Restaurant & Lounge at the Marriott Marquis in Times Square.
“You can see all the waterways and all the bridges and it’s just magic up there,” Schrager said of the project, which is housed in a Watchtower complex building that will be turned over for redevelopment in 2017.
The restaurant’s rooftop will have indoor and outdoor areas featuring terraces, while another dining floor will hold 160 people, the New York Post reported.
The Ian Schrager Company Public Hotel in Dumbo Heights, meanwhile, will hold a screening room, banquet space, a nightclub and a 70,000-square-foot private swim club.
“We want to make it like a destination resort,” Schrager said of the redevelopment group, which includes Dumbo Heights stakeholders Jared Kushner, Invesco and LIVWRK.
RFR’s Aby Rosen and Michael Fuchs are also involved, creating offices and adding additional retail stores to five other buildings at the complex. [NYP, 2nd] — Rey Mashayekhi
