Politicians are pressing the mayor and governor for $70 million in funding to renovate a more than 70-year-old station house that also covers Flushing Meadows Corona Park.
“Fiorello LaGuardia was the mayor of New York when the current 110th Police Precinct location was inaugurated,” said state Senator Jose Peralta, at a press conference outside the N.Y.P.D. precinct in Corona, the New York Daily News reported.
The station house has had boiler and facade problems for several years, the News reported.
The 110th Precinct also covers the 900-acre Flushing Meadows Corona Park, which, in recent years, has the highest number of crimes after Central Park, according to the News.
Peralta and other Queens politicians pushed for the funding, and for the building of a satellite police station at the park’s ground, which is home to Citi Field and the Queens Museum, in a letter to Mayor Bill de Blasio and Gov. Andrew Cuomo. Travel time between the precinct and the park can be at least 10 minutes, the politicians said in the letter.
