Red Hook is getting its red letters back

A giant “Red Hook” sign is returning to the neighborhood

It isn’t Hollywood, but for years Red Hook had its own iconic sign. Those entering the neighborhood at Van Brunt Street and Hamilton Avenue were welcomed with the words “RED HOOK” spelled out out in giant lit-up letters. That is, until the building’s new tenant took them down.

As The Real Deal previously reported,
Tesla Motors is anchoring LIVWRK’s office conversion at 160 Van Brunt Street in Red Hook, marking the electric car giant’s foray into Brooklyn. However, during the renovation of the property, the popular sign outside the building was removed. But never fear, the sign is coming back, an official for Tesla Motors has announced, according to DNAinfo.

“Dear #RedHook @TeslaMotors told us today that they installed new ‘Red Hook’ lights on corner of bldg saying ‘we listened & heard'” PortSide NewYork, a maritime organization tweeted Thursday night.

Many locals had organized to bring back the sign as soon as it disappeared.

“The sign should be reinstalled in the next couple weeks,” Tesla spokeswoman Alexis Georgeson said.
