Playbill moves HQ closer to the Great White Way
Theater magazine leases fourth-floor space at 729 Seventh Avenue
It’s a homecoming of sorts for the magazine Playbill, which is moving its headquarters from the Garment District to Times Square.
The theater magazine, with its signature yellow banner, signed a lease for 11,200 square feet at Himmel + Meringoff’s 729 Seventh Avenue between West 48th and West 49th Streets.
The15-story, 172,000-square-foot building was once home to Hollywood studio United Artists, which was co-founded by silent film star Charlie Chaplin.
Playbill, whose programs are ubiquitous at Broadway shows, will take the entire fourth floor at the building, the Commercial Observer reported.
The magazine is moving from Olmstead Properties’ 525 Seventh Avenue.
Asking rent at 729 Seventh Avenue is in the mid-$60s per square foot, the New York Post reported.
Savills Studley’s Jarod Stern and John Harte represented Playbill and Jason Vacker and David Cohen represented for the landlord in-house, according to the tabloid.
Other tenants at 729 Seventh Avenue include the Actors Fund of America, Key Brand Entertainment, Magno Sound and The Broadway League, according to the Observer. [NYP and CO] — Dusica Sue Malesevic
