Pier55, the park that will float above the Hudson River, is slated to start construction this summer, after receiving approval from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
The 2.7-acre park was funded by the Hudson River Park Trust, led Barry Diller and Diane Von Fürstenberg, which put up $113 million for the project. Diller and Von Fürstenberg (who also contributed $35 million to the High Line), have since faced accusations of creating a “vanity project” and not allowing for enough public comment on the project.
