Bottoms up! Brooklyn Brewery is planning a move to the Brooklyn Navy Yard.
The local beer company has outgrown its Williamsburg home and will sign a 40-year lease for a new 75,000-square-foot headquarters at Building 77 at the Brooklyn Navy Yard, with plans to move in in 2018, the Wall Street Journal reported.
The company plans to set up a manufacturing facility, offices, a rooftop beer garden and a pub at the building’s Russ & Daughters-anchored food court.
Brooklyn Brewery has been seeking a new headquarters location since 2013, chafing at the increasingly high cost of its current location at 79 North 11th Street in Williamsburg. Asking rent for the new space is unknown.
“The Navy Yard was always one of our favorite locations, but the problem was that there was no public access as an industrial park,” the company’s CEO Eric Ottaway told the Journal.
The brewery plans to offer tours, as well as visits to its planned rooftop beer garden and food court pub.
The company is also in talks to lease a large production facility in Staten Island, the Journal reported.
The company currently brews most of its beer in Utica, NY. “We’re exporting a lot of beer,” Steve Hindy, one of Brooklyn Brewery’s co-founders, told the paper. “By being in Staten Island near the port, we’ll reduce our transit costs significantly.”
