Hart Island is one of the eeriest places in New York City. At first glance, it looks simply like a remote and uninhabited parcel off the coast of the Bronx in Long Island Sound. But there are residents: over one million of them, buried in mass graves.
According to the New York Times, New York is unique among American cities in the way it disposes of the dead it considers unclaimed. Bodies are sent to an off-limits island and buried in bulldozed mass graves by a crew of inmates paid just 50 cents an hour.
And by off limits, we mean off limits. Even the New York Times was denied access. However, few places are off limits to a drone. Check out the video below.
