Now Björk has more space and solitude than ever to write her “Pagan Poetry” and “Hyperballads.” You might say that “It’s Oh So Quiet.”
The Icelandic singer and champion swan dress wearer has bought her ex-partner of thirteen years, Matthew Barney, out of their Brooklyn Heights penthouse at 160 Henry Street.
According to city documents, Björk paid about $1.6 million for her share of the apartment, which is significantly less than half of how much the couple paid for the apartment in 2009 ($4.25 million). In 2014, Barney purchased a slightly run-down townhouse in Fort Greene for $1.99 million, where he presumably lives without his Icelandic musical goddess.
The former couple was engaged in a custody battle in April, with Barney suing Björk for demanding too much time with their 12-year old child, Isadora. Bjork’s “self-focused mindset . . . flows, in part, from her belief that as Doa’s mother, she has far greater rights than I do as Doa’s father; and, in part, from her insistence that I am solely to blame for the breakdown of our relationship and the end of our intact family,” the lawsuit said.
Isadora attends St. Ann’s school in Brooklyn during the semester and spends her summers in Iceland with her mother.
Here’s Björk explaining how a television works like only she can.
