Toby Moskovits’ North Williamsburg office complex at 25 Kent Avenue is a few steps closer to becoming a reality.
Two New York City Council committees — those on zoning and land use — on Tuesday approved a zoning change allowing for a planned 480,000-square-foot development for both office and light industrial use, Bloomberg reported. The full council is slated to vote on the project Thursday.
The committees approved a special permit that will allow Moskovits‘ Heritage Equity Partners [TRData] and Philadelphia-based Rubenstein Partners to build 340,000 square feet of office space. Without the permit, the developers would only be allowed to include 160,000 square feet. The project will also feature 60,000 square feet for light-manufacturing.
The special permit typically requires that projects incorporate community space.
In May, the City Planning Commission approved the permit, but tossed a rezoning proposal that would have allowed projects in a 14-block area to also expand office space without incorporating community space, like schools. [Bloomberg] — Kathryn Brenzel
