Developer Matthew Adell plans to build a 15-story condo building a few doors down from former Mayor Michael Bloomberg’s Upper East Side mansion.
Adell, head of Adellco, filed plans last week for a 232-foot tall condominium at 27 East 79th Street, New York Yimby reported. The building’s eight units will span a collective 22,830 square feet. The building will also feature 1,425 square feet of retail, according to permits filed with the city. HTO Architect is designing the building.
The developer purchased the property in April for $28 million, shortly after investor Orin Portnoy purchased the property for $15.7 million. A five-story townhouse currently sits on the property, three doors down from Bloomberg’s home at 17 East 79th Street.
Bloomberg has been scooping up units at the townhouse co-op next to door at 19 East 79th Street since the 1980s. As of April, he currently owns five of the six. [Yimby] — Kathryn Brenzel
