One of Shelter Island’s best waterfront estates is poised to set a record for the idyllic isle. The 4.8-acre property has hit the market asking $32 million.

The current single-family sales record on Shelter Island belongs to a 5,100-square-foot house that sold for $9.5 million in 2014, according to the Wall Street Journal.

Owed by Dick Tarlow — a retired advertising-agency executive — this 7,000-square-foot, Queen Anne Victorian-style home was built around 1890 and has seven bedrooms and six bathrooms.

It has nine wood-burning fireplaces and wraparound porches, along with a tennis court, basketball court, pool, 80-foot dock and a boathouse. There is also a windmill on the property that has been converted into a guesthouse.

The price “is unheard of for Shelter Island,” Beate Moore of Sotheby’s International Realty told the Journal. “But we’re not worried about it, because it’s a world-class property.” [WSJ]Christopher Cameron
