Bluestone Organization partners with Jamaica church on 174-unit rental building

UPDATED, July 28, 3:22 p.m: Bluestone Organization is partnering with a centuries-old church in Jamaica to develop a 174-unit mixed-use building.

The Jamaica-based developer teamed up with the 354-year-old First Presbyterian Church to develop the 143,000 square-foot building at 89-50 164th Street.

The 12-story building will include 14,616 square feet of commercial space, a 63-car parking garage and 9,261 square feet of community space, according to plans filed with the Department of Buildings.

Reverend Patrick O’Connor said 34 of the units will be market rate, with the remainder set aside for those earning between 50 and 80 percent of the median area income. Groundbreaking is expected early next year with a completion date eyed for the fall of 2018.

Through its nonprofit development arm, the First Jamaica Community Urban Development Corp., the church purchased the site of the project for $2 million in 2008.
