Forget swimming pools, rooftop terraces, porte cochères and even helicopter landing pads. The latest amenity at high-end apartment buildings in the U.S.? Charging stations for electric vehicles.
Developers are betting on the electric-car market taking off and, as a result, are installing electric charging stations at high-end buildings nationwide, Mansion Global reported.
A recent study found that sales of electric vehicles will hit 41 million by 2040 to account for 35 percent of car sales, according to London-based research company Bloomberg New Energy Finance.
Among those with EV charging stations in New York City are the Related Companies’ [TRDataCustom] 70 Vestry, Adam America Real Estate’s 610 Warren in Boerum Hill and Ironstate Development’s Urby Staten Island.
The 46-unit Tribeca condo at 70 Vestry will have eight charging stations, along with a garage with an automated parking system. At 610 Warren, a seven-story, 31-unit building, residents will have a private parking garage with 10 EV stations.
Urby, a 900-unit rental on Staten Island’s North Shore, will have a slew of “green” amenities, including 300 parking spaces and electric car chargers. There will also be a 5,000-square-foot urban farm, a rooftop apiary with several beehives and a communal kitchen with a chef-in-residence. [Mansion Global] — E.B. Solomont
