An early Christmas gift, perhaps? A Chelsea townhouse once owned by the poet Clement Clarke Moore — who famously penned “‘Twas the Night Before Christmas” — has hit the market for the first time in 30 years.
The 25-foot-wide Federal-style house, which is currently configured as three apartments, is asking $9.875 million, according to Curbed. According to the listing, 444 West 22nd Street measures approximately 5,000 square feet and will be delivered vacant, allowing the buyer to transform the house into a “generously-sized” single-family residence.
Built around 1835, the house has retained period details like iron railings, high ceilings, seven fireplaces and a grand parlor. Douglas Elliman’s Eileen Foy is marketing the property.
